I can't register my Sims 3 base game to the store

I purchased my SIms 3 game through Steam and got a code to install the game. While I was able to successfully install the game and play it, I can't use the same code to register the game on the Sims 3 store - it says the code is invalid, even though I have both copy pasted and typed it out multiple times. 

Here's what I tried so far and didn't work:

  1. Cleared browser cache (I use Brave browser)
  2. Cleared cache and used Microsoft Edge 
  3. Tried to register via the EA app - it says my game is already registered

The weird thing is the achievements I am earning still shows up on my Sims 3 store profile, but the base game icon on the bottom left hand side is still grayed out. I haven't purchased any expansions / stuff packs until this issue is sorted. 

I also tried to contact EA through their website but after filling in the form it just gave me the option to "Explore self-serve support" and didn't generate a case ID or anything.

Please help! I have no idea what else to try!

    If your code is showing as invalid on TheSims3.com, you'll need to reach out to the live support team here https://help.ea.com/en/customer-care/  so they can check your current code and look into getting you a new code to register on the website. Here on the forums, we aren't able to access your account details to look into your code or grant a new one for you.
