Installed expansion is not showing up in-game

I just bought the Supernatural expansion through Origin. When I installed it, the external installer warned that the previous installation was newer than expected, and that Supernatural might not be compatible. When it was finished, the option to play the expansion hadn't yet shown up in the Origin client, only to install again. So I quit and restarted Origin; now the option to play the expansion was there, but when I launched the game, it launched as the Late Night expansion only — the Supernatural content was nowhere to be found in-game. What happened?

Is the Supernatural expansion pack showing up as installed in your computer? This is what I would do, uninstall the Supernatural expansion pack, uninstall and install Origin again and install Supernatural again.

The alias for it is in the Sims 3 folder, but the uninstaller doesn't recognize that the game is installed, even though the Origin client does.

What I ended up doing is deleting the Sims 3 folder altogether and re-installing everything from scratch. Took all day, but I finally got it to work.

I guess now the question is: Why did this happen — and am I going to have to re-install everything every time I add an expansion?
