Intel HD 4000

Hi I'm planning on getting a laptop and the one I want has intel hd 4000 graphics card. Now I know intel cards are crap for gaming but this one says it has 1.65GB of dedicated RAM will this be ok to run the sims 3? Please Help!! 🙂

  • Hi iluvsims2k11,

If you want to get a Intel card, it should be an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA): GMA 3-Series, GMA 4-Series.

Here the system requirements for the latest expansion:

    PC System Requirements

    • OS: XP SP2 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7
    • CPU: For XP 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent; For Windows Vista and Windows 7 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    • RAM: For XP 1 GB RAM / Windows Vista and Windows 7 1.5 GB RAM (For NVIDIA ION™ computers, the game requires at least 2.0 GB RAM.)
    • DISC DRIVE: DVD drive
    • Hard Drive: At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games. (9.6 GB of hard drive space if installing with The Sims 3.)
    • Video: 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

Supported Video Cards: Nvidia GeForce 6 series or better, and all NVidia G, GT, GTS, and GTX video cards. ATI Radeon™ series card 9500 series or better, and all ATI X, X1, and HD video cards; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA): GMA 3-Series, GMA 4-Series

Please note that the GeForce 6100 and 7100, as well as the FX series, are not supported.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi fellow simmer,

EA's support team should really get their facts straight about current technology before supplying an answer. The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator series was replaced with the Intel HD Graphics series when Intel started integrating their graphics into the CPU instead of the north bridge of motherboards.

According to my research HD 4000 should be capable of running Sims 3, meaning it meets the minimum requirements, but since it isn't a dedicated graphics card I wouldn't expect peak performance, meaning I'd keep the graphic settings at middle or low not on high.

Because it's integrated graphics the performance is greatly affected by the processor (i3, i5, or i7), its MHz/GHz, and the available RAM (memory).
