Invalid serial number

Hello, yesterday I purchased The Sims 3. It installed without problem and I created an Origin account using the serial number given on the inside of the Sims box. This worked fine, but then when I loaded the game to create a Sims membership/register to sims community, I used the same serial number and it told me it was invalid? I've been looking at several forums to find out how to sort this out and can't find an answer. I decided to register without a serial number but it told me I would have limited access to downloads etc on the 'sims community' site. Is there anyway to add my serial number to get full access? And why is it saying it's invalid? I've looked for ages at FAQs and on the Sims Community site but I don't know what to do. Please help.

    Try logging in at Thesims3.com with the same data as in Origin. I'm not exactly sure how it works with new accounts but if you have an existing ones, the game should auto-register.
