Issues Enrolling into a University

So I have a very lengthy legacy in progress and timed the youngest member to be a young adult when University Life came out. I bought/installed/played University Life (as in from the first launch) with no problems. The game loaded just fine, everything was the same (aka I didn't lose all my personal inventory/family inventory/fridge/storage items, personal relationships, etc.) I tried enrolling the young man into a University, the moving van came and everyone said goodbye, it loaded me into the University town... only to find no clipboard with my Sim on it! It was in the Tutorial (like when you first create a town) mode. I tried going back to my home town (a modified and long played Moonlight Shores) and the town was reset to default (I know because houses and commercial lots I'd removed/changed were back to their original positions) and I have NO game options! Not even the Tutorial format, no bar with Save/Exit. Nothing. So I restarted my computer (which is definitley not the issue, it's a very new, very good gaming desktop) and loaded my game, and everything was like it was before I tried enrolling. I enrolled again; the same thing happened! Then I tried to seperate the Sim I was trying to enroll into a new, single, seperate household (so I could save him to the bin and just move him to the University town) and discovered I can't even split up or move my households!!
