Keyboard stops working while on game

Hi!

I got pointed here.

I made reddit post about my problem (https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/140pfls/i_have_faced_kinda_odd_problem/) and it didn't get solved there.

So, as I have mentioned up there, I tend to play my game with keyboard shortcuts and under 2 hours of playtime my keyboard suddenly stops working on game. I have tried probably literally everything I can think of.

Getting quite frustrated, this problem has been on for a while now. If it does matter, my keyboard is Logitech G512.

Please help ☹️

  • @Traumerr  It looks like your keyboard is not wireless, but if it is and I'm just missing that detail, please test with the keyboard plugged in the entire time.  Either way, please set Windows to not show any notifications while you play, and also close any apps like Discord or Steam that include overlays before launching Sims 3.  If you play through the EA App, as opposed to having a disc or Steam install, disable its in-game overlay as well.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean boot.

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

If that doesn't help either, let me know what kind of install you have (EA App, disc, Steam, something else), and please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Keyboard is wired one, yes. It should be plugged as normal to usb port on the back of my computer. I play through EA app, formerly Origin, I didn't have any issues with changing to EA app, but this problem definitely appeared after that so any connection between that?

I'm not that nerdy with computers, so is that clean boot completely safe to do? I'm just afraid that I'll * up something. :D How I'm supposed to know what background process is like mandatory to keep the computer running?

I attached dxdiag file just in case.

@Traumerr  In the instructions for the clean boot, you'll see that you're supposed to check a box to hide all Windows services, then disable the rest.  (As mentioned, leave the EABackgroundService enabled if you play through the EA App.)  Those Windows services are mostly essential or at least important; the rest is not.

And again, if you kill a critical process in the Task Manager and it doesn't restart on its own, which is what would usually happen, it should start again when you reboot your computer, so no harm done.  You don't need to go through the Windows services list, just the background processes, which will include some Windows functions, but you'll recognize those by their icons.

This is all the more important because your dxdiag shows Sims 3 errors that look like another program is interfering with the game.  I can't tell from the info in the dxdiag which program that might be, but if the clean boot works, you can start reenabling services until you run into the issue again.
