second try:
Regarding the cache theory:
The CASPartCache always seems to stay at 4 KB. Tiny.
Currently, my ScriptCache.package is at 1.9 MB.
CompositorCache.package is at 20.3 MB.
And the simCompositorCache.package is at a whopping 202.1 MB.
All created on 3/27/11, which was the last time I cleaned them out, after the bed bug screenshots were taken, which was at 5:00 am 3/27/11.
I'm up to week 9, day 3 of a new game (on epic lifespan) and that is how much has accumulated. Two hundred MB seems rather excessive, doesn't it?
The people that are playing for long term families, at this rate, it would be a staggering amount of cache occupied, and would seem to be a good reason for the game to lag...while the computer goes through all that cache.
Meanwhile, deleting the cache doesn't seem to hamper game play at all. So what IS being held in that 200 MB?
It would seem to be a "memory leak" kind of thing. Something that the game should dump on it's own, and it isn't doing this. And because of that, the game will get stubborn and slow and problematic. The game will still want to put something aside, but it's slowly eating away available space, which isn't good.
I am hoping that all of us talking about this problem will somehow help the techs and developers. That they'll have an AHA moment after reading the comments and looking at specs and pictures.
It might be interesting to know just how big that simCompositorCache.package can get.
