launch sims 3

Sims 3 will not launch on my new Alien/Dell computer.  I have tried to find instructions on how to solve this problem to no effect.  Please send me easily understandable instructions to solve this problem.  If not, I want a refund of my recent $200 purchase of Sim 3 base game and add-ons.
