I have an iMac and I'm having the same problem. Here's what I have:

MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.6

iMac 27-inch, Late 2012

Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB

Is it possible that there's not enough RAM (memory) to run everything?
