Mac: Error with sims 3 "Unknown Error Occurred" (after installing).

Which Mac do you have exactly? Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your desktop and select About This Mac. Please provide the following information:

- Operating System (Version)
- Mac model
- Processor
- Memory (RAM)
- Graphics

- Are you running any antivirus?
- Do you have Time Machine/Spotify/Dropbox or similar running?

- Are you patched up to date? You should be on patch level 1.67

I have exactly the same problem. I'm not running any antivirus program and I don't have any kind of programs. Please help me :'(

Please try one or all of the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Open Documents > Electronic Arts and drag the Sims 3 folder to your desktop. Relaunch the game, create a Sim, move to a house and play for a good 20 minutes or so if you can. Is it now working?
2. Play in windowed mode - when the game launches in full screen hold down CMD and press the Return/Enter key.
3. Purging RAM before you launch the game and frequently during gameplay.
4. If you have a post-2013 model Mac check whether it is listed in this thread and follow the workaround if necessary - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/CURRENT-ISSUE-The-Sims-3-Issues-playing-on-newer-post-2013-Macs/m-p/4935394#U4935394
5. If you have recently uninstalled and re-installed the game did you make sure to get rid of every single file from the previous install? Just using the uninstaller is not enough.
6. If none of the above work please reply with the full specification of your Mac. If you do not know how to find this follow the instructions here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-3-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4756624/highlight/true#M4 Providing all the information about your Mac and game is essential. Just stating what operating system you're using or what year your Mac is doesn't help at all.

@Bluebellflora I couldn't do any of you said because the launcher is not opening and it says "unknown error occurred" so I can not run the game. And I think I wrote all of the information about my mac in my other post like you said.

Steps 1 and 3 have nothing to do with the Launcher and are done before attempting to launch the game. Can you also confirm whether you have uninstalled and reinstalled the game before this started happening?

I need all the information asked for in my link, not just the information you have provided:

- What version of OS X you are running?

- Are you running antivirus?

- What EPs and SPs do you have installed?

- Do you use CC/Mods and if so have you tried the game without them?

what do you mean by "windowed mode"

When I try to launch the Sims 3 I get an "Unknown Error Occurred" every time. I have EPs but I did a clean erase of all games and only re-downloaded the base game to see if that would help but it didn't. Any help you can give me I will gladly take, I've been trying for months to find a solution and gave up for awhile, but I miss TS3 so I'll do anything.

(Edit: I looked at your page and followed the instructions for a link you posted to bypass the launcher [I had tried this in the past but that was before I patched up to date] and this helped. I made it as far as the plumbob with a blue background (the plumbob wasn't spinning) until I got a new message.

"Unable to Start Game

Service initialization failed (0x0175dcbb)"

Your only option is to press "Okay" and it exits.

Time Machine/Spotify/Dropbox are not running.

My game is patched up to date. It wasn't at first but I followed your instructions I found on how to do the super patch so now I'm at 1.67
