I purchased the digital download for the sims 3 starter pack my MacBook Pro. It which came with High End Loft Stuff and Late Night expansion packs, and I also purchased the Universities expansion pack. I downloaded and installed high end loft stuff about a week ago and have been playing it. The only problem I had with it, is when I try to sign in to my Sims account thing during game play it freezes and I have to force a shutdown on my computer by holding down the power button (which I presume is not the best for my computer..)
Now I have downloaded Late Night, it took a few hours to download and finally once I downloaed it, I tried to install it. It makes it almost all the way through the installation process, but when it gets to file 635 out of 686 with 5 seconds remaining, it freezes. Every time. When this happens it will not allow me to shut my computer down or restart it. I have to force it to turn off by holding the button down. I have done this a couple times and each time it freezes at the same point. I left it for like an hour but it doesn't make any progress. Please help.
I hope I dont have this much trouble once I try to download and install the Universities expansion pack.
I took a screenshot of the frozen screen, but I don't know a way to display it on here.
PLEASE HELP ME
Hi Anna
Sounds like you have two problems here - one is that your game is freezing during login and the other is that you are having trouble installing expansions.
Starting with the login freezing - where exactly are you trying to log in? Generally speaking the game runs better if you don't log in and avoid using the social features, so unless you are desperate to try those, I'd not bother.
Regarding the installation, I assume you are using Origin? Unfortunately it's pretty common for Origin downloads to be corrupted or partial. The best way to proceed would be to uninstall and start again. It will take a while but you can save the installer files so that you can avoid redownloading in the future. Detailed directions below.
Good luck!

1. Clean uninstall and reinstall
When you uninstall TS3 games on your Mac using the uninstaller, the game leaves behind stray files and isn't completely removed from your computer. These files may conflict with future installations. It is best to completely remove them. BluebellFlora's website provides a guide on how to do this:
http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/
After cleanly uninstalling, install the base game and patch it up to date. If you cannot update via the Launcher, download and apply the latest cumulative manual patch (called the superpatch) for Mac. Be sure to choose the right file - there are various 'regional' files for disc-users and one designated region 7 for Origin-users.
Check that your game works properly. Then install any EPs and SPs that you own, in order of release date.
2. Further information on the cumulative manual superpatch
Many simmers find that patching their game via the Game Updates tab of the Launcher does not work properly. It is then better to download and apply the manual superpatch. It is important to download the Mac version rather than the PC version, and to pick the right one for your region. Be aware that if you are using a disc you need to choose the correct 'regional' file but if you are using digital download through Origin then you should use the file designated 'region 7'.
Instructions and the links to the downloads can be found in the Mac section of the forums at thesims3.com here:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/549552.page
If you use any mods or custom content, be sure to remove them before patching.
3. Using Origin to install games on Mac
Download and install the Origin client for Mac and make sure it is up-to-date. If you already have Origin on your Mac but are having problems with downloading or installing games, delete the client and download a new copy (this sometimes fixes issues with downloading). The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download
Additional advice on how to download games (thank you Tremayne for this tip):
When downloading from Origin, do NOT use the first install icon. Move your cursor over the game cover and click on the information (letter i) and then click on the install button from there. For some reason, downloads from Origin frequently become corrupted. Using the i reduces the chance of your download being corrupted. If you have already been unfortunate and have a corrupted download, then it is important to remove all traces of this before trying again, by doing a thorough, clean uninstallation first.
Are you running anti-virus software or any clean-up applications? If so, disable these, as they might be deleting files that Origin needs. A fast, stable internet connection will also help you.

I've uninstalled the High End Loft Stuff and Universities packs. But since the Late Night pack never fully installed I can not figure out how to delete it so I can re-download it. It's already downloaded - corrupted I'm assuming - it just won't install. I also did a clean uninstall of Origin and redownloaded it.
I'm still having the same problem with the Late Night pack. It freezes with 4 seconds left during the install. On file 635. Is it possible that some of the files are still on my computer and I just can't find them to delete them, therefore it's hindering the install? Like, what should I do??

I have officially uninstalled and deleted everything sims related from my computer (expcept Late Night because there are no files with it - therefore I can not delete and redownload it) , along with deleting and reinstalling the Origin client. Redownloaded Sims 3 only, and tried reinstalling Late Night. Still didn't work.
Super upset.
