My sim recieved the message that graduation was about to start and of she headed. She arrived at the graduation and waited outside while other sims came and went. I let her stand there for a while ...

I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it - while your sims are traveling to the stadium, I viewed the stadium and zoomed in from the map and used the resetSim <sim name> cheat, and made all the other sims disappear. I paused the game while doing it to ensure I would have enough time. That way, your sims will not have to wait in the huge crowd and they will go in the stadium on time - allowing your sim to graduate with their diploma.
