New laptop won't play game.

My old laptop had began to give me small electric shocks but it wasn't until my Sims 3 game completely crash that I decided to invest in a new laptop (priorities right?).

So yesterday I bought a HP Pavilion, touch screen and it's a beaut! Now I don't know much about laptops and what not but I specifically asked if The Sims 3 (plus expansions) would be compatible and I was assured that it was. 

A little more info on the laptop if need: 

  • AMD A8-6410 APU
  • Windows 8.1
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Hard drive: 1 TB

I got it home, set it up and then began to reinstall my Sims games via origin. When they finally installed (took a lot longer than expected) I've found I've yet to been able to get past the Create a Sim screen and that is only if I'm lucky for most the time it crashes before I even get that far. Everything runs smoothly then out of no where it crashes and I get 'Sims 3 has stopped working'. 

Sometimes the game won't start at all. 

I have tried the couple of suggestions I've found on this site (lowering the graphics, disabling full screen view) but getting to the end of my tether as I'm really not sure as to what to do next.

I'm hoping that it's something blatantly simple and I'm just being a simpleton but I just really want to get this sorted.

    Computer looks ok but something is weird with your RAM

    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 7104MB RAM

    Wonder where that gig of RAM went.

    Did you have it upgraded or did you get the computer like this from the Store ?

    Did you try if it runs with Base game only ? Did you already move over old files or is this still vanilla game ?

    I didn't have it upgraded at the shop and apart from the initial set up the only thing I've done to it is downloaded The Sims straight from Origins. I initially downloaded a couple of stuff packs but when the game wasn't loading I uninstalled them so only have the base game now. Still the same problem.

    Are you willing to try a third party tool ? There's a tool called crash log analyzer (just google).

    It's not a magic tool that can stop the crashes but it can give an indication to where the error lies. Just copy the errors you get to the clipboard and post them here.

    This tool is not supported by EA so you'll be using it at your own risk

    The AMD A8-6410 APU is for a laptop using the R5 Mantle graphics capacity.The problem you are currently having is a Catalyst 14.# issue.

    So far the drivers for 14.4 and up have serious Direct X9 issues as well as Stuttering in use and Lagging out games.Example

    Skyrim should be running at frames of 120 FPS at 1600x900.But with this current driver issue you are only getting 10 frames per second.By setting the resolution is unacceptablely low resolutions can you get even close to playable frame rates.at 1024x720 only getting 30 FPS.Examples below.

    In other games like the Sims 4 it works perfectly fine at high resolutions.But in the Sims 3 crashes of failure to run at all.Blue screens an crashes.
