Origin won't update!

I've been trying to install Sims 3 since last night. (Disk version, I have Windows 7) When I first inserted the disk it prompted me to download/install Origin which I did. I then logged in and it brings up the window that says "help" on one side and "install" on the otherother and also says something along the lines of "powered by Origin". I click "install" and it does nothing. I also tried opening Origin and it didn't do anything, even after attempting to run as admin. After trying multiple things, I decided to uninstall everything and start over. 

Origin then prompted me to update and it kept giving me an error message telling me to download the latest version and it gives me a link that does nothing. I googled and followed some instructions on this site. I did the following; 

1.Manually uninstall Origin

2.Run CCleaner

3.Restart your router/modem and do a Clean Boot

4.Make sure that your UAC is enabled and set to notify

5.Download the latest version of Origin and install the client-make sure the run the setup file with Admin rights

6.Add firewall/antivirus ezcetions for Origin and open the needed ports 

7.When starting Origin, run it as Administrator 

Now the update is getting further, but still stops and gives me a different error message. I restart my computer (because Origin won't even bring up the update again if I don't) and the update automatically starts again (from the beginning). It seems to get further each time, but hasn't even passed the halfway mark. 

I'm pretty frustrated at this point to say the least. I could really use some advice. Please and thank you!
