You're using an app cleaner? They can cause more problems by getting rid of files they shouldn't and destabilising the system, resulting in having to reinstall the operating system and apps.
Did you use it to get rid of the TS3 files when you uninstalled?
Yes. I've been using it for years. Never had a problem with App Cleaner. Same computer I've been using since 2012 as well. Been using Macintosh products for 20-25 years too. And app cleaner is actually one of the safer ones to use for removing hidden content that you miss removing because it finds them all. But the best way to keep the Mac running is by defragging it from time to time and backing up content after you remove a lot of stuff to help prevent issues in the long run.

I have to strongly disagree but that's ok, we're all entitled to our opinions 🙂 Nothing beats removing files manually, it's the safest way.

I went searching your the apple support section and someone posted a link to see what applications and games are compatible from Mavricks up to El Capitan.

The Sims 3 is 100% not supported by El Capitan. This explains why it has all sorts of issues.

Roaringapps is a great site but is not official in any way, it relies on users to input data for apps and whether they work or not. I've just looked at it and TS3 was showing as not compatible in El Capitan based on one user's input. I registered and posted that it works fine for me so now the result is a draw. It is purely subjective.
As always when upgrading operating systems there is a risk that some apps won't work. TS3 running in El Capitan is working for more people than not based on user feedback I've seen not just on here but other forums and social media sites. Yes some people had to uninstall and reinstall but you don't lose your game by doing that (so long as you keep the Sims 3 folder with your user data). My game didn't work after I upgraded on my MBP but after reinstalling my Store content it was fine. After clean installing El Capitan on my iMac and installing the game it ran fine.
TS3 has always been problematic on Macs unfortunately but with some TLC it can and does run. When uninstalling it is CRUCIAL to get rid of every single residual file that the uninstaller leaves behind. Quite often people state that a new install doesn't work but there are files left over from their previous install which they weren't aware of. As soon as they have deleted those they can install successfully.
- Anonymous10 years agoTried installing TS3 on my brand new iMac. Highest one (1TB Etc) 2016 27". It updated itself immediately to the latest (debugged) version of El Capitan. (What a ___ OS btw, not a fan as most of my programs will not run and iDVD is gone!). I bought an external CD drive just for my TS games! Obviously I won't even try to install TS2 (and every expansion pack made) as 3 isn't working at all. Installed, authenticity failed and then again it and then it crashed. That happened twice. What can I do? My husband suggested downloading th game (repurchasing it hoping it had patches in it) or just trying to download TS4 but TSR had more for TS3 then 4 and I'm all about building then playing. Any helpful info would be great. Thank you!

And with regards to TS2, if you purchase it through the App Store it works great.

Thank you!! Im having my husband rebuild the PC and keeping it on a dual boot so that Windows Vista remains as does my Sims 2 and 3. I actually just purchased Sims 4 and I'm going to download it (even thought it came with the disc Mac needs a download--odd) and keep my fingers crossed that it works. Hope so. My computer is a new iMac 27' 3.2 intel core i5 processor with 8GB 16 Mhz men, Nvidia GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB (awesome cards) Im also running El Cap version 10.11.3
Wish me luck! I'm in serious Sims withdrawal. Over a year!

That Mac is the late 2013 model so TS3 should be compatible. It's the 2014 onwards iMacs with the AMD GPUs which are not compatible - great news! But it's also one of the Macs listed here which is having issues with TS3 in El Capitan - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/OS-X-El-Capitan-and-The-Sims-4/m-p/4831536/highlight/true#M110 EA haven't fixed it yet, 5 months on...
