Overhead Map Icons missing (and rant)
OK, I believe I have a corrupt save issue. I checked through the corrupt save list and didn't see it, but maybe someone has seen this.
So in the 2 images I uploaded, you can see that one of them shows the normal map view with the little circle icons that only show up in the map view to identify places (library, science lab, etc) The screenshot called normal view is from a good save file that I didn't play very long. The second image (defective view) is of my current game and as you can see the little circle icons that probably have a name but I don't know it are not there.
I believe it is related to a messed up collection helper (little rewards item, looks like a butterfly.) Anytime I try to pick it up or give it to someone else, the cursor becomes locked and refuses to drop the item. Selecting items to search for does nothing since nothing is showing up in the overhead view. I have tried going to the backup file and it has the same issue, no luck.
Honestly I am really sick of this * with this game. It is a great game for about a week or maybe two and then the save files invariably become corrupted. So I play for a while until the game fries itself then I walk away from the game for a year or so and then I try again ... I never seem to learn.
I have heard there are mods that can fix corrupt files: do they work? and if they do, can someone link please.
EA customer support has been exactly as helpful as ever. I got garbage information from 2 different agents on this issue. The first one told me that uploading the games to the cloud would fix the issue completely (despite the fact that the sims 3 has no cloud support) and the second guy had clearly never seen or played the game ever. This game is apparently worthless to me in its current condition since EA has no intention of ever fixing all the bugs. Maybe that will be the next downloadable content thing they try and get people to buy: bug fixes. "New in the sims store: 20% off a fix for invisible sims!" Sorry for the rant, I am just sick of this sh-- after 7 years of this game never working correctly and EA's greed.
@pookshuman First of all you can rant but we are users just like your self and some people may not help you. I've never had this problem but I see nraas mastercontroller (google it) reset lot seems to fix the issue. It's a mod and needs to be installed as a mod. I don't use this mod but I use overwatch to correct another issue I was having. I'll provide a link to the post I read - link - map icons You may need to create the framework for cc/mods - not a big thing and there are plenty of posts on how to do it.
