Overhead Map Icons missing (and rant)

OK, I believe I have a corrupt save issue. I checked through the corrupt save list and didn't see it, but maybe someone has seen this.  So in the 2 images I uploaded, you can see that one of them ...

    @pookshuman First of all you can rant but we are users just like your self and some people may not help you. I've never had this problem but I see nraas mastercontroller (google it) reset lot seems to fix the issue. It's a mod and needs to be installed as a mod. I don't use this mod but I use overwatch to correct another issue I was having. I'll provide a link to the post I read - link - map icons  You may need to create the framework for cc/mods - not a big thing and there are plenty of posts on how to do it.

OK, Update: I went through the checklist @crinrict sent and it looks like it was because I had the EA documents folder open. I would never have guessed that since none of the files were in use, but anyways, that fixed it.

So then I reinstalled the mods and reset the sim and it seemed to work. I didn't play the game for long, but it appeared to solve the issues.

I am gonna consider this issue solved, but I do have a final question for you folks @crinrict @roberta591: Is it better to leave the mods installed or remove them? In other words, will they help prevent future errors? They don't appear to cause any lag, but it's a bit annoying having the "nraas" option pop up in every dialog. But if it helps solve errors, I am happy to deal with it.

    @pookshuman I use the overwatch mod and every now and then it fixes things like too many cars and other small issues that COULD lead to bigger issues.
