Persistent error: "Invalid Login Information. Please try again." - 64-bit SIMS 3

Hello, fellow (Mac) Simmers.

I just ended my 3rd EA chat session of the month regarding this issue with no solution. My online consultant referred me to the forums to report the bug here.

I followed all the recommended troubleshooting tips on the forums and the ones from EA support with no positive results.

The bug:

This occurs on the Mac 64-Bit Sims 3 Update, on the new update MacOS Big Sur.

Once I open The Sims 3 launcher and type in my details, I cannot log in with the error saying: Invalid Login Information. Please try again. (See 1 screenshot attached)

So, I then try to launch my game without logging in. It stops loading at the screen where users are supposed to choose their game to load. (See 2 screenshot) This screen continuously keeps loading to infinity with no results.

(However, I am able to log in the Sims 3 website, Origin and EA.)

Troubleshooting tips I have followed (with no positive results) - adding the links followed:

  1. I have changed my password a couple of times just to really make sure my credentials were correct.
  2. I tried logging in through a different Sims 3 account.
  3. I uninstalled and reinstalled my game.
  4. Followed this advice: "try to uninstall Origin the hard way https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/#uninstall-advanced
  5. and also, reset the Origin app on you Mac https://help.ea.com/en-nz/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/ "
  6. Cleared cache on Safari and Google Chrome - my only browsers on this computer as suggested here and by my EA consultant: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Sims-3-Game-Launcher-Can-t-Log-In/m-p/7925605#M236372
  7. I disabled my proxies.
  8. Flushed my DNS and followed other recommended steps here: https://help.ea.com/help/mac/connection-troubleshooting-advanced-mac
  9. My Wifi troubleshooting test showed no intermittent issues: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202663 ; https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202068

@puzzlezaddict Thanks once again for the reply and your help!🙂

So my account is the same one that is registered with the game, it was confirmed by tech support as well.

Now I've been trying to launch the game as is, with no installed content or saves, the lowest graphics. Three out of five times it would glitch and the screen would flash rhythmically, forcing me to restart my computer. I am not quite sure why the game has these random issues all of the sudden. I am not even sure if I can get to the bottom of them individually to fix them, and that's been frustrating☹️

@julijaforest  When you lowered the settings, did you do so while in-game, or perhaps load a save directly after changing them?  That's traditionally caused various graphics glitches, and I've seen a few reports of the same in the 64-bit version.  Best practice is to change the settings at the Main Menu, then quit to desktop and reload rather than going straight into a save.

The usual fix for this issue is to delete options.ini and let the game spawn a new one, this time not changing any graphics settings until you've tested.  The exceptions are switching between fullscreen and windowed and changing the resolution, both of which should be fine.  However, playing in fullscreen on a resolution your monitor doesn't support can cause problems too, so it's better to mess with the resolutions while in windowed mode.

If this doesn't help, please describe what the rhythmic flashing looks like and when you see it.  There's a separate issue with red flashing on some lots, related to the buildings themselves and reproducible on different machines, but maybe that's not what you mean.

@puzzlezaddict So the flashing stopped thankfully, not sure what was that about. I played around with the settings, but it was on low through and through. So maybe it was temporary... And of course, I changed it to the windowed mode when it was less laggy. Maybe that helped.

Also, as per usual, my game has been crashing randomly, but that's just usual for me as a Mac player (not sure if the random crashes are correlated, but that's how I've known the Sims to be anyway haha).

Other than that, I've been able to play the game offline on the "newly" launched game. That has been fine, just frustrating to play without logging in, mostly because I'm a creature of habit in this sense.
But, I suppose, if the game works otherwise - that's what matters...

    Thank you for your help!

@julijaforest  It's too bad that Sims 3 seems to crash more often than it used to for a certain segment of the player base.  I've only had a couple crashes myself in the 64-bit version, but those were entirely my fault; others report constant problems.  There are some steps you can try if the crashing is too intrusive, for example avoiding badly made worlds (e.g. Isla Paradiso, and Bridgeport to a much lesser extent), or not playing with the Pets pack.  But there's no one good solution, unfortunately.
