Re: I lost my registration code for Sims 3

Hi  @chloelouisevicky

There are a few methods to try if you have lost your serial code.

  • Finding it on Origin
  • Finding it in the registry/Terminal if you have a MAC
  • Contacting customer support

Finding it on Origin

Open and login to the Origin client (if you do not have it already installed, you can download it here: http://origin.com/download )
Go to your My Games
Find the game "icon" and right-click on it
View Game Details
You'll see the code under Product Code

Finding it in the registry [PC]:

You need to be signed in as an Administrator first. Windows may require your permission to open the
Registry Editor and if so, just click on yes.

Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type regedit in the search bar and press Enter.
Click on 'File' at the top left of the window that opens then click on Export.
Choose a location and name for the file as this will be your backup registry file.
Click Save.
This backup is created just as a precaution.
Now to find your serial codes for each specific EP or SP installed on your computer:

Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
Expand the SOFTWARE folder (Wow6432Node for 64 bit systems)
Expand the Electronic Arts folder.
Expand the Sims folder
Expand the EP or SP you need the code for
Click on ergc and in the box to the right under 'Data' you will see the code
Write it down somewhere safe
Repeat above steps for each EP

Finding it in Terminal [MAC]

hey so i did the things you said, except that my folders were a bit muddled up so that sims wasn't in electronic arts and the sims 3 (under the sims) didn't have any sub folders? I am very confused.

@mmarch  What are you looking for? The base game and expansion packs have five groups of 4 characters for the activation code. Worlds have four groups of 4 characters for the activation code. Prior to Origin the code was stored on the local computer and it was up to the user to keep track of the code. The codes were stored (and still are) in the registry of pc computers. Some very early codes will not work anymore and there were some instances when the codes supplied by some authorized vendors were incorrect. It is important to know when and where you purchased the game. If you want to contact EA customer service - link - EA customer service  If you get the call back option this does work. If you use the chat it works best with IE (Internet Explorer).

  • @SandArcher im trying through origin and im not finding it, i got the point of “view game details” but no code anywhere ☹️( pls help thank you 🙂

@CoWgirL_4u  Right-click on the Sims 3 icon and select Game Properties, not Game Details.

If you can't find your code, you can always contact EA customer support to ask for it.  A support rep should be able to read it to you over the phone, or paste it into a live chat window.

If you have other questions, it would be best to start your own thread; this one is pretty old, and Origin has changed a lot in the interim.
