Re: Sims 3 application not responding

@wastedlizzy  The way I test custom content is by installing it into a clean Sims 3 user folder.  If the content doesn't work in a clean folder, with nothing else installed, then it's probably either broken or requires a pack or item I don't have, and I can't use it.  But then most cc works fine for me, so I already know the issue isn't my computer.

If a cc item works in a clean user folder but not in my existing one, then the problem is something in my existing one, and I need to figure out what.  That can be a bit tedious but shouldn't be overly complicated.  But please test in a clean folder first, so you know whether the issue is the cc itself or something else.

@wastedlizzy  Okay, so what happens if you install the packs a few at a time into a clean Sims 3 folder?  If and when the game stops working, please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > DCCache, switch to list view if you're not using it already, and take a screenshot.  You'll need to embed it within a post, using the button two to the right of the emoji button, rather than attaching it.

Please also let me know the last item(s) you installed before the game stopped working.

I installed small packs in new folders and they all seem to work in small packs but when it comes to like installing all of them they are successfully installed but whenever i try to play the screen goes full screen and turns black and then minimize and goes to to my origin and then i go to check on the app and it says not responding. and i went to check on the DCCache and this shows up.

@wastedlizzy  Try disabling iCloud's automatic syncing of Documents.  You can still upload files manually; it's just the auto sync that can cause problems.  This guide is for a different issue, but the relevant settings are the same:

If that doesn't help, try removing the file labeled dcdbt.ebc (with the t) from the DCCache folder and see whether your game works.  I'm not sure what it's for—its name doesn't fit with the way the files are labeled.

I disabled icloud syncing and i also deleted the one dcdbt.ebc like you said and i opened the game up and it still doing the same thing like before.

@wastedlizzy  Okay, delete the five cache files in the Sims 3 folder:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

Test the game, and if it's still not working, take out all the .dbc files except for dcdb0.dbc, as in, you're starting with just file 0 (zero) and the one .ebc file, plus the other (temp) files that don't matter.  See whether the game launches.  If it does, add back dcdb1.dbc and test, then dcdb2.dbc, etc.  Delete the cache files after each successful test, and let me know which file causes the game to stop working.

I deleted the five cache files and tried to launch the game and that didn't work and i took out all the ,dbc files expect zero but when i went to launch it went to go into the game but then just says not responding including the launcher

I repaired the game and it keeps on doing the same thing and i tried playing without cc and it works perfectly, but idk if its a piece of cc or the game because i tested every single piece of cc and it works fine and allows the game to open

@wastedlizzy  When you say you tested every single cc item, how did you go through the process?  It's strange that the game wouldn't work even with only the one .dbc file in DCCache.

Try loading the dcdb0.dbc file, and nothing else, in another clean user folder.  Once you've created a new Sims 3 folder, you can just copy the file into DCCache inside that folder and see whether the game loads.

So when i checked every cc i went by the person who made it so like if i have more than one cc from the same person i would put them together and they work and okay im going to try that

EDIT: When looking at the cc in the launcher i found two cc that i don't have in my downloads but i got a new clean folder but it still shows up in the installed cc but not in the downloads section.

@wastedlizzy  The Arezzo Bathroom Counter is a plague on Sims 3.  What likely happened is it was attached to another item you installed.  The only solutions are to try to get rid of it, or to reinstall your store content from scratch, leaving out whatever download the counter came with.  Here's how to find and remove bad custom content, although it's not foolproof:

    https://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/01/tutorial-how-to-get-rid-of-unwanted-custom-content.html

To reiterate, it's often not enough to simply uninstall through the launcher.  The item can still be attached to an installed sim, household, build, or world; or in a file in DCBackup.  You can delete everything in DCBackup except for ccmerged.package if you want; the other files are duplicates of installed Sims3Pack content.

I removed what i had from the store and it work to remove that bug but i think i should have a little bit of cc in my download at once so it could work

@wastedlizzy  As long as you don't reinstall whatever item came with the Arezzo counter, you should be fine.  It's still a good idea to check the launcher's installed content list to make sure you don't get any other items you don't want though.

@wastedlizzy  Sometimes the in-game login stops cooperating temporarily, so please try it again.  (I tried just now and it worked for me.)  If you still can't login, clear your browser caches for Safari and whatever your default browser is, if it's not Safari.

If that doesn't help either, please change your password to something with only letters and numbers, no special characters, accents, etc., at least temporarily.  Then clear your browser caches again and see whether you can login.
