I don't know Avast at all.
can you add exceptions ? Try adding the ts3w.exe to see if that makes a difference.

Well, thank you very much for your time. That seems to have fixed it (don't have time for a full nights gaming to test it but I managed to get to CAS.) I thank you for being with me on this long journey to which we have finally reached the conclusion.
After 10 years of PC gaming, I've never thought or had to add a game to the exceptions list. First time for everything I suppose.
