Riverview will not download (Macintosh Sims 3)

We saw several other folks having this problem over the years, and the reply is always "clear your cache" or "try a different browser" and there is never a reply as to if that worked for the original poster.

We have tried 3 different browsers (current versions of Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari), different Macs, clearing all our browser caches, etc, and still the same failure result:

The Launcher opens and after a few minutes a Launcher-generated dialogue pops up and announces
"There was an error Downloading Content {0}"

Sims 3 is patched up as far as the Launcher will go. We have Sims 3, World Adventures and High End Loft Stuff installed.

Our MacBook Pros are running MacOS 10.6.8 with 8Gig of RAM.

  • What is your base game version right now ?

To find out, open your launcher and hover over the little base game icon in the lower left part of the launcher. It should say 1.50.

More Details can be found here: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/01/tutorial-how-to-find-your-game-version.html

    For Macs: http://bluebellflora.wordpress.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/checking-which-patch-version-youre-running/

    ---------------------------

For PCs there's usually also a log that can be found in documents/electronicarts/thesims3 and is called Sims3LauncherLogFile.log

Post the content here if you have that too.

Sorry for the delay, but EA did not send any email notification that you ahd replied. Also don't know why I have 2 accounts here...

Anyway - followed instructions on finding version numbers:

The Launcher window says 3.12.8.011031 in the lower left area, and when I mouse over the base game it says "The Sims™ 3" in the pop-up field.

Digging into the info files burried in the game packages gives these versions for the base &  the two expansions:

    TheSims3.app/Contents/info.plist:

    ...
    <key>ClientBuild</key>
    <string>1.22.9.011001</string>
    ...

    The Sims3.app/Contents/Resources/AddOns/The Sims 3 World Adventures.app/Contents/Info.plist

    ...
    <key>ClientBuild</key>
    <string>2.16.6.010031</string>
    ...

    The Sims3.app/Contents/Resources/AddOns/The Sims 3 High-End Loft Stuff.app/Contents/Info.plist

    ...
    <key>ClientBuild</key>
    <string>3.12.8.010031</string>
    ...

The Launcher does not indicate any updates are available.

Okay - The Launcher has just made a liar out of me.

It said "your game is up to date" when I clicked the Game Updates button, as it had when we re-installed the game at the end of May (after a long hiatus due to the shenanigans necessary to use custom content back in 2009) and let it update itself until it said there were no more updates.

I Just now clicked the Refresh button and it says theres a new update (from February) to 1.5. Words can not express how much I despise this Launcher...

I'm leting it install that and will see if Riverview will then download.

    It really should work.

    (I hate the launcher too)

    Good Luck.
