Sims 3 - "A serious error has occurred while loading..."
I'm genuinely going insane trying to figure this out so please please help if you know what I can do. I know very very basic computer tasks so keep that in mind lol.
In December, I bought the entire game & all DLCs for the Sims 3 on Steam. I think I played 1 or 2 times with no issue. Then, after playing a new save for like 4 hours one day, it wouldn't let me save my game. Then, when I returned to the game, I would see the name of my save file, but it wouldn't let me open it, saying I may no longer have an expansion pack the file was saved with. And then it did that every time I tried to make a new save file for a while. Soo I gave up for a little bit. I think at that point I did find a semi-solution to the problem, which was that the issue was stemming from my game saving to my OneDrive. Now, I'm having other issues, but I believe the issue may be the same cause.
Now, I can make a save file, save it, and it will show up in my saves when I load the game. Then, when I close & reopen the game, or restart my computer, I cannot open the save file or create a new save file. I get the error message, "A serious error has occurred while loading 'Bridgeport.world'. It is strongly recommended that you restart the application." It says this for any world I try to open. This happens regardless of if I try to install CC or not.
Here's what I've tried. I'm still thinking this issue may have something to do with my game saving to OneDrive instead of my local drive. So, what I've done is adjusted my Steam settings to install into my C drive, deleted any Sims 3 files from Documents & Desktop (multiple times) , and uninstalled & reinstalled the app. But, what's happening is that the game itself installs into C and then the game files save into Documents (which is backed up by OneDrive). I don't know how to fix that. Now, I know you may be thinking that I should simply go into my OneDrive settings and turn off the backup. However, the Sims 3 is the only game I'm having this issue with, and when I tried to do that before, all of my Sims 4 saves and CC disappeared. (I was able to get it back after resyncing but my heart dropped). I don't want to lose my back-ups. I wish there was a way to literally just have Sims 3 downloaded just to my computer with no OneDrive or online sync.
I have also tried various things from the Sims 3 Steam guide including deleting random BIN files, etc. Nothing worked. I literally called a support person from Microsoft, too, and it did not help.
I think I should also mention this- when I bought the whole game & DLC bundle, it assigned all the DLC keys & they show every time I open the game. I strictly open the game from Steam. I think I've tried to put the keys into the Sims website as well as the EA app so I can try opening the game elsewhere, but I have never successfully done so. My Steam app and EA app are synced (all of my Sims 4 stuff shows there) but none of my Sims 3 stuff shows up. I'm not sure if this is related.
Again, I feel like I've tried so many things and gotten absolutely nowhere so if you have any suggestions please let me know before I officially go bonkers. Thank you!
