Sims3 Freezing upon gameplay loading

Tried playing the sims3 numerous times, and every time it loads then it plays for a few seconds then completely freezes. I can't exit the game when that happens, I have to restart my computer every single time, I have no mods installed that would cause any issue, tried uninstalling the sims3 and reinstalling, that did nothing. I have seen that it might be a common issue but nothing I have tried works, can anyone help?

If you installed the game somewhere else and are seeing a message about downloading files, it's probably not coming from the EA App but rather OneDrive, which could be syncing your user data along with everything else in Documents.  In that case, pause OneDrive syncing, move the folder out again, and then test the game.

If you get another freeze, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know whether you've limited your in-game framerates, AND confirmed that the limit is holding.  If you don't use a third-party app that comes with an fps counter, you can use the one built into the game.  Bring up the cheats console (ctrl-shift-C) and enter fps on to make the counter show up in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Should removing the sims3 document folder to my desktop cause me to have to download it again? Cause that's what I'm doing right now

I deleted the sims 3 again, then moved it to download to my desktop, and i  think that did it, tested it out for a bit and had no freezing like before, so thanks a lot, that was really frustrating to deal with.

How can I get mods to show up in the game because I have tested and seen that it only works when the sims3 is in the ea document folder path, otherwise the game will just freeze just as before. I now have it downloaded to my desktop but if i add any mods the game does not recognize them at all

  • lidn0m1krbgf  Where exactly is the game installed, according to the EA App?  Please list the full path you see in the App, under Sims 3 > Manage > View properties.

  • lidn0m1krbgf  Sorry for the late reply.  Please uninstall the game and reinstall it to the default location:

    C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3

Pause OneDrive syncing before you do this.  You can see the option by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen, or it might be hidden in the Tray icon.

Once you unpause OneDrive, it shouldn't redownload the game to the Desktop folder, but double-check afterwards and also the next day in case there's a delay.  If it does reappear, you can delete this copy since the correct copy will be in the EA Games folder.

I tried that, changing the download path as mentioned in your previous reply, it worked for awhile, not sure what went wrong, but the mods went back to not showing up, i deleted the game and redownloaded to the same download location C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3, but nothing happens, the mods still won't  show up in game

  • lidn0m1krbgf  Please make sure the mods are in the Sims 3 user folder the game is currently reading.  To check, look inside for a file called DeviceConfig.log.  This file updates each time you open the game, so when you're in the correct folder, the file's modified date will be the last time you launched Sims 3.  If it's older, or you don't have a DeviceConfig file there, you haven't found the correct folder.

And to be clear, this is the user folder, the one that contains user files like saves, not the program files folder, which you've installed to Program Files\EA Games.

If the mods are in the folder the game is reading, please post a screenshot of the contents of the folder that contains your mods, as in, I'd like to see the mods' file names and sizes.  Include the address bar, above the list of files, in the screenshot.
