sims 3 64- bit on macbook pro keeps freezing + black screen

Hi! I have a lot of questions.

1 question. So I've been playing sims3 for years on my old PC but it kept crashing so I decided to download sims3 on my mac. On my sims 3 64-bit I have zero custom content but it shows I have university life. I had University Life on my old PC but I did not download it to this Macbook. So is this causing my computer to crash? I even tried to load only the base game, not University life but it still freezes up.

2 questions: I just downloaded sims 3 64-bit yesterday and the games cannot get passed the screen that shows the mini-game (the "find the *item here* and get sims points). It tends to get stuck on the screen for minutes and I end up restarting my computer altogether. The only time I've been able to get passed that mini-game screen was once but it only shows a black screen and played music. I have read other threads that mentioned taking sim3 out of a folder and putting it on a desktop but that didn't work either.

Below is my computer specs-

MacBook Pro-

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Processor 2GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Memory 16GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4x

Graphics Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB

  • @Honey6330  Are you trying to load saves from your PC on your Mac?  If so, that could explain the issue: a save exposed to an expansion that's no longer present would be corrupted and might not load properly at all.  There are other reasons this kind of problem might happen too; that's just the first thing that comes to mind.

As a test, please move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (This will address other issues in addition to an unusable save, so please do it even if you've been trying to open a new save.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save, or try to, and let me know how it runs.  Don't change any of the graphics settings either other than the resolution and fullscreen/windowed if you want.

If that doesn't help, let me know whether you're using iCloud Drive, and if so, whether it's full or close to it.

For the issue with University Life, you'll need to contact EA customer support and ask that the "entitlement," as it's called, for the 64-bit version be added to your account.  This is simple for a support rep to do.

If support isn't being helpful, you might have better luck with EA Help on Twitter or Facebook, especially during U.S. business hours.

Hi! Thanks for your help! I separated the sims3 folder but the game still doesn’t load. I checked my iCloud drive and I only have 471.6 MB left 😭 so this might be the reason why my game isn’t loading.

Edit: I cleared out my iCloud and it loaded the game and it started to load faster but it froze on the same load screen ;; Got any other tips to help?

@Honey6330  Please disable iCloud's syncing of Documents entirely.  First, make a backup of anything in Documents you don't want to lose, just in case—you should still be able to find it within your iCloud drive, but it's better not to rely on that.  Then follow this guide:

    https://bluebellflora.com/2017/02/06/sims-3-and-sims-4-not-loading-save-games/

Restart your computer and try to play again.  If you see the same issue, please go into Documents > Electronic Arts and move the Sims 3 folder to the desktop, then try again.
