Sims 3 and Steam????

I just purchased Sims 3 and 2 DLC's for it  Ambitions and Pets. I downloaded them and tried to play. My Steam and EA account are linked because I play Sims 4. I always login through my Steam and until now it has been fine. However, when I hit play in Steam to login to Sims 3 it opens a small screen for Sims 3.  I signed into my EA then hit the button to play Sims 3 and it starts to load then  poof I am back on my Steam Library page. I don't know what else to do. I am fearful that I am going to be told I am going to have to subscribe to EA and login through EA which leaves me out with hopes that I can get refunded almost $60 for my purchase. If it cannot be played through Steam then why is it being sold in Steam store????????

  • @Phaewalker  Please repair the game through Steam.  The option is called "verify integrity of the game files," and it's somewhere under Properties, perhaps under Local Files.  (It's moved around at times.)  Then try to launch the game through its executable, TS3W.exe (with the W), or a desktop shortcut.  The .exe is inside your Steam game library, here by default:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin

You shouldn't need to have Steam or the EA App open in order to play, at least not after the first time you launch the game.

I uninstalled reinstalled. Verified files in steam, reapaired EA App then reinstalled it , I have cleaned the caches nothing has helped and Sims 3 will not open at all.

I am trying  the other thing but I am verifying files again first. I don't have a desktop icon for Sims 3 though. I did that and it opened a big screen of Steam I hit the play there was little circle and then the button became play again. Did not open the game   Do you have to subscribe to EA to play or is it free like Sims 4 once you purchase it.

@Phaewalker  You don't need to subscribe to EA Play or otherwise hand over any money to play Sims 3.  I have a Steam install, and my accounts are NOT linked, and the game runs fine.

Please uninstall Sims 3 using Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  Remove the EA App with Revo as well.  Restart your computer, reinstall Sims 3 through Steam, and don't install the EA App at all yet.  Try to launch the game through Steam and let me know whether it works.  If it does, you can create a desktop shortcut for Sims3LauncherW.exe and launch the game using that.  Or you can use TS3W.exe and bypass the launcher entirely.

If you still can't play, reinstall the EA App, and check your game library to see whether Sims 3 is available to download there.  If it is, uninstall the Steam version with Revo again and reinstall through the EA App, then see whether the game works.

If this doesn't help either, or you'd like to find out whether something else is blocking the Steam version from starting, please run a dxdiag and attach it to your reply.
