Sims 3 crashes when loading save

I saw the anniversary & wanted to play my old game. I have tried several of the listed workarounds w/o success. Is there any plan to make Sims 3 compatible with Windows 11, or should I just give up?

I feel like this is a conspiracy to sell Sims 4

thank you for any insight you may have

  • Knatura  Did you try the new, local admin Windows account?  That should work when nothing else does, and if not, please let me know what antivirus you use.  It's very possible that there are several underlying issues here that all lead to the same error.

I created the new windows account & one drive is not on it. I played the game for approximately 5 hours. Yesterday while playing it crashed to desktop. I tried restarting it through the sims 3 launcher, it did not attempt to start. I went to the EA launcher where my library was empty. This morning I updated the EA launcher. My games are in the library. I launched the Sims 3. It stops on the load screen for my town then crashes to desktop.

  • Knatura  Are you currently seeing the "serious error" message, or something else, or no error at all?  Does it matter whether you try to load an old save or start a new one?

There is no error message. I only have one saved game, which is approximately 5-6 hours of gameplay. The town is Sunset Valley.

  • Knatura  I've split your posts into their own thread since you're not seeing the "serious error" message covered in the master thread.  Can you load a new save right now?  I'm not saying you necessarily need to abandon your current save, but this is a useful test.

If you can't load a new save, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

If the new save works but the old one does not, please try loading a backup of the old save.  Inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves, you'll see a folder with your main save name and another folder with the same name and a .backup extension.  Rename the save and delete the .backup, so it ends in .sims3 , and the save should be available to load at the Main Menu.

Please also let me know whether you use mods or custom content.  It's fine if you do; I just need to know.
