@crunchies4me Origin is run by EA just like Steam is run by Valve. Just don't buy Steam expansions pack. If you buy from a vendor just redeem the code in Origin or thesims3.com and the pack should appear in Origin. If you buy through Origin the pack is automatically added to your Origin account.

@crunchies4me The code is basically what you are paying for. The code on the discs is dated so if you buy the disc just redeem the code and get the digital download. The down side is the downloads are large.

The whole reason for getting the expansion pack on cd rom is to avoid having to download any more from origin because of how long it takes to download.- roberta5919 years agoHero (Retired)
@crunchies4me The time it takes to download depends on the bandwidth you get from your ISP (internet service provider). With optical drives (dvd drives) disappearing from laptop more and more software is being distributed by digital download. As you don't post your internet speed it's hard to recommend a solution. As speeds continue to increase the price of bandwidth continues to decrease. Most ISP offer basic internet access cheap to get you as a customer so you will upgrade later. If you have a laptop most libraries will allow you to connect to their internet. There are many places that offer wifi hotspots. As far as personal internet with 4K tvs the minimum bandwidth for streaming is 16mbs. Each day that passes the internet becomes more and more important. If your internet is shared in your house you may need to increase your bandwidth. The more other users are using the internet (downloading or streaming) the slower your download will be.
