Sims 3 Folder generating in Public Documents Folder when I launch it

Hi! So I first noticed this issue when I saw that none of the .package CC I had downloaded was showing up in my game. I then realized I had two Electronic Arts folders, one in Users/(my account name), and then one in Users/Public/Public Documents. I deleted the Electronic Arts Folder in the Public Documents folder, but it didn’t seem to do anything since it just keeps on regenerating in there every time I launch the game. I want the game to use the one in my Users/(my account name) folder as that is where I have my CC and mods installed. Also, it is just a nuisance if it keeps generating in my Public Documents folder. I even tried going in Properties and hiding the Public folder but the Electronic Arts folder is continuing to regenerate in there. Does anyone have a solution to this? I am so unsure what to do.

  • @adzgirl2000  The first question is what the default location is for the Documents directory.  Please search in Windows for "command prompt," open it, and enter this command:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

    Then post the result here.

Hi. Thanks for the response. This is what I got:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
    Personal REG_SZ C:\Users\alexi\OneDrive\Documents

    .

@adzgirl2000  It's odd that Sims 3 would be using the Public Documents folder rather than the one inside OneDrive, but perhaps the latter isn't accessible for some reason.  Do you have any use for OneDrive?  If not, the easiest approach here would be to stop OneDrive from syncing Documents at all.  I wrote this guide for Sims 4, but the steps are the same:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-saves-user-content-disappearing-PC/m-p/12475370#Disabled

To be clear, you'd either need to stop OneDrive from syncing Documents, or get rid of it entirely; merely excluding the Sims 3 folder might not help here.

If you do want to keep the syncing feature, try pausing OneDrive syncing while you play.  The option is available when you right-click the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.
