Sims 3 Generations Expansion

Hi, I've downloaded the base game onto my PC and the latest update. But when I try to download my EP (Generations) IT says "to install this product it requires an installed copy of the Sims tm 3." I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times already. How can I fix this? Have I not downloaded it correctly? Thanks
