Sims 3 Into the Future Crashing When Time Traveling

Whenever I try to time travel, the loading screen bar will increase slightly and then the game will crash to desktop with no report. I've tried clearing cashes, repairing the game, disabling expansion packs (I have Supernatural and Island Paradise), and renaming the Sims 3 file to Sims 3 Backup to get a fresh copy. The same has happened for all 3 households I've tried it with, and I have no custom content or mods installed. The only answer I've found online to this problem is to revert to an old version of the game, but I have a digital copy so I cannot do this as far as I'm aware. I'm also pretty certain my computer has the capacity to run this as well, and I'm running Windows 10.

  • @Niscomo  Thanks so much for the information, and for testing.  I'm glad that your game is working again, and happy to have something to recommend to the other people with the same problem.

On that note, @AKShelton can you try disabling OneDrive too?  If that doesn't help, please let me know.  And if you do use mods, NRaas ErrorTrap is highly recommended, for this and many other reasons.

  • @AKShelton  The travel transition is fragile and can break easily, for a variety of reasons.  Some can be related to save-specific issues, like playing in an unmodified version of Isla Paradiso—the world is so poorly made that the game engine can break down trying to fix the problems that arise.

But it sounds like you've encountered a broken transition even without IP in play.  As this may be a system-wide issue, I'd like to see a dxdiag on your computer.  That will cover a whole bunch of issues at once.  You can attach the results to a post here.

By the way, reverting to a previous patch level would only have a minimal effect on travel.  The game will take sllightly more resources to run with an Origin install, but the effects should be controllable in most if not all cases.

  • I reinstalled sims 3, but traveling not working (future, university and vacation). Everything was good until today.

@Niscomo  Can you please try to travel in a new save?  Just start a new game, pick a family, and send them traveling.  If it doesn't work, quit to desktop, delete the five cache files in your game folder in Documents, and try again.  The cache files are:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

If you still can't travel in a brand-new game, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here.

I reinstalled the game, deleted "sims 3" folder in my document and started a new save. Аnd sim can't go anywhere.
I downloaded the game to another computer and the same thing there...

@Niscomo  You're one of several people reporting the same issue. as you can see.  And it's quite new—I hadn't seen any other reports until yesterday.  So I'm kind of guessing here, but maybe we can try to isolate the issue.

Do you have OneDrive enabled on your computers?  If your game folder is being uploaded while you play, that could cause a number of issues, including perhaps the crashing during travel.

What happens if you play while your computer is completely offline?  After logging into Origin, you can put it in offline mode, and then disconnect from wifi or unplug the ethernet cable.  Then try to travel again with a new save.  It's also a good idea to remove your game folder from Documents and start with a fresh one.

I'd also like to see a dxdiag on each computer, or at least the error reports at the bottom.  Those reports might list something useful relating to the crashes.

Yes, I launched the game offline and disabling wi-fi, it did not help.
I'll try to disable one drive, thanks for idea.

Thank you for the quick response. I've tried ErrorTrap to fix this issue before posting, as well as NRaas Traveler and neither worked. However, disabling OneDrive worked! Thank you so much for the solution.
