Sims 3 into the future

When I try and inspect my portal nobody from the future comes and I get trapped inspecting it. Is there something wrong with it? Is there something I am suppose to do first? Am I not suppose to use custom content? 

I just want to be able to go into the future.

    this has been know to happen for some players you can try cancel the action for your sim go to buy mode and sell that portal replace it with a new portal from buy mode or go to the three dots edit town move your sims out and back in

    if your sim is stuck at inspecting the portal and you can't cancel the action then try the resetsim cheat 

    ctrl+shift+c hold all 3 together in the menu bar that appears at the top of the screen type resetsim first name last (of your sim ) hit enter for example my sim is named John Dear i type in resetsim John Dear

    You cannot save the game whilst this is happening, so i cannot go into edit town mode.   The sim is locked to the point the can't even die! If you delete the portal, they are still locked waving their arms.

    No one comes out of any portal.

    I've uninstalled the game and re installed it.  Still the same.  The beds (dream bed), bot workshop egg thing (haven't had chance to even find out what it does yet) the shower all cause the sim to jump away to a stand and the interaction is cancelled. 

    Thank fully now to your reset sim cheat I haven't got to kull anymore sims.

    I should say I am patched as patched can be and my CC is clothes and hair.
