Sims 3 mods not working with EA App

Hello fellow Simmers,

I recently had to install the EA app, since it wouldn't let me use Origin anymore.
Since I updated to the EA app, my mods are not even registered anymore and they do not work either.

The "old" mods folder (which is accessed via Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 3 -> Mods) still contains the Resource.cfg as well as the package folder where the unpacked mod packages are.

Is there a "new" Mods folder and if so, where do I find it/ where do I have to create one?

I have tried placing a mod folder in
program files (x86) -> Origin Games -> The Sims 3 -> Game Data -> Shared -> packages
as well as
program files (x86) -> Origin Games -> The Sims 3 -> Game Data -> Shared -> Nonpackages -> Here I created a Mods folder and placed the resource.cfg within it
None of these worked, unfortunately.

The mods I use are Nraas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, Autosave and Mastercontroller and I've experienced quite a few of glitches and crashes ever since I can't play with them anymore and I'd really love them back.

  • @knurzhase  Are you sure you're adding mods to the correct user folder, as in, the one Sims 3 is actually reading?  You can check the modified date on the deviceconfig.log inside this Sims 3 folder: the file is updated every time you launch the game, but only if it's inside the folder Sims 3 is using.  So the file's timestamp should exactly match the time you pressed Play in the launcher.  If you're not sure when that was, launch the game again and see whether the modified date was updated.

If the timestamp doesn't match, you're looking at the wrong folder.  You can search your computer for deviceconfig to find the correct one: each user folder will have exactly one of these files.  Once you find it, that's where your mods need to go too.

If this doesn't help, please post a screenshot of the contents of Packages, as in, I'd like to see the mod files themselves.  Make sure to include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, and if the full file path is cut off, expand the window sideways until the whole thing shows up.

  • @knurzhase  The Sims 3 user folder, including the Mods folder inside, works exactly the same in EA App installs as in Origin (or Steam or disc) installs.  So please remove the Mods folder(s) inside the game's program files; they won't help here.

Instead, please create a new Mods framework, including a new resource.cfg, or download a fresh framework, add it to the correct location, and add a fresh copy of one NRaas mod.  Make sure to delete scriptCache.package before testing the mod.

Hi puzzleaddict, thank you for looking into this!

Unfortunately, neither the new framework nor deletion of caches changed anything besides the game running smoother.

In the meantime I tried deleting the user data, too, this didn't do anything either.

Edit, because I forgot to mention: I removed the mods files from the program files, of course!

    Hi, Puzzleaddict

This actually worked!!! Thank you so so much!

Turns out, I really was using a Sims 3 Folder where the device log hasn't been changed since the 22nd of June 2022. This was when I migrated data from one PC to another and this was, I kid you not, my backup copy. My last three brain cells are to blame.

I managed to hunt down the CORRECT Sims 3 Folder through your method.

Thank you very much for your diligence and patience, you did me a great favour.

When you say the sims 3 user folder do you mean the Sims3zip with the Mods framework already installed? Im having the same issue after i installed the EA app but my NRaas are not working. I removed the Mods folder from the Documents EA sims3 folder. But i just wanna know where im suppose to put the Mods folder for the NRaas can work in my game. I already checked the Devicecoglog & its been updated since 3/17/23. Where is the correct location to put the Mod folder because the Mods folder worked with the skipping of the intro in the Documents EA sims 3 folder. Im very confused since I cant use Origin anymore

@lamisha2009  The Mods folder still goes into the same location: Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  Individual mods still go inside Mods > Packages, and they all need to be unzipped and in .package form.

If this isn't your issue, please let me know what antivirus you use.

I am still having trouble getting my mods to work, I’ve done everything suggested here, the deviceconfig is correct, I’ve deleted and recreated a new mods folder with a new resource.cfg file, I’ve deleted all appropriately deleteable cache files. I cannot figure out what the problem is. Ive been testing with two simple mods; no mosaic and no intro and neither of them are working. I’m at a loss at what to do further

@Wheres_rufus94  Please post a screenshot of the folder that contains your mods, as in, I'd like to see the mod files themselves.  Make sure to include the address bar, above the list of files, in the screenshot.

Please also list the patch level you see in the lower-left corner of the launcher.
