Sims 3 No Romance Building

I redownded The Sims 3 yesterday with no mods or CC and for some reason whether I make a single sim or a married couple there is no romantic relationship. When I try to build the relationship all the romantic interactions are available apart from Try for a Baby and Woohoo but no romance relationship builds up. I have tried moving people out, moving to new neighbourhoods, resetting sims, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, clearing  any Cache files, making a new Sims 3 folder. I can't think of anything else to try and fix this bug. Can any one help me out? Thanks.

  • @Shannca95   Hehe, I think it was too long ago I actually played The Sims 3, having moved on to TS4 now. 🙂

I had to test in my own game, and loaded it on Steam, where I have it already installed, with all packs. Made a married couple in CAS (new folder), and chose romantic interactions between them. Maybe you have played The Sims 4 as well, because what I realised I'd forgotten was that TS3 does not have a visible separate romantic relationship bar; any interactions made raises (or lowers) the green relationship bar only. To make the option Woohoo/Try For Baby appear, the other sim need to find your sim Extremely Irresistable, which you will see in the friendship panel in the top left corner. And of course, you need the items necessary placed, like a bed for instance. The game is also more picky with the player's choices, and less forgiving, so sometimes it takes quite a lot more romantic interactions to get the sims in mood, and the process is also built on momentum, so any false move and the sims loose their interest (for the moment). More realistic this way, I think. 🙂

If this doesn't work, could you say which traits you give your sims? Then I'll try through Origin, with only the packs you have listed. Oh, and also what 'age' they are, the difference between TS4 teens and TS3 teens are great.

  • @Shannca95   When you created a new folder, did you move your old files into it?
Do you have the game on Origin?

Try make yet another new folder by renaming the one you have.
Then do a repair in Origin: Origin client>My Game Library>The Sims 3 icon, right-click, and choose Repair in the drop down menu. Wait till it's done. Restart Origin by logging out.
Start the game to generate a new The Sims 3 folder. Do not add any of your files back to it.

Make a new save and try with some randoms sims to get the romance bar. You need to try a couple of romantic interactions for it to appear.
If it works, then there might be something amiss in your old folder. Try moving your old files and folder over, one at a time, testing to see when the problem resurface.
    Here is a good explanation:

If it doesn't work in the brand new folder, with nothing added to it, try another repair and report back.

    Thank you for your response!

I renamed the original Sims 3 folder I had, moved it out of the Electronic Arts folder and then opened the game to create a new one - sorry should have been more specific. Didn't move anything into the new one and I am using Origin.

Followed your advice and the issue has still not resolved. Persevered and tried 3 times but nothing has worked unfortunately.

Tried only playing with the base game incase it is an expansion pack causing the issue and it was still there.

I have the following expansions installed: Pets, Ambitions, Generations, University Life, Seasons, Island Paradise, Late Night.

Oh wow you are actually right about the relationship bar! Haha, definitely forgot about that from not playing it for so long now.

When I first had the issue I couldn't get any Woohoo or Try for a Baby options even when Sims were irresistible. I don't know how but uninstalling Origin and Sims and then reinstalling everything worked and resolved the issue!

Thank you for reminding me how the Sims 3 works 😂!

@Shannca95  Oh, I'm so glad it works now! And sorry to make you jump through hoops before testing the game myself, it's just so common an issue with missing interactions being the result of issues with the files in the user folder I've learned to suggest that first. Thank you for trying them though, and have fun gaming. 🙂

No worries at all, I now know what to do if anything else happens because I have never had to do that before (and have been playing since 2002 - I must be very lucky lol).

Thanks so much for your help 🙂
