sims 3 no sound -> deleting caches doesn't work

I fresh installed S3, again. As it opened past the launcher it said something about not recognizing my video card or something. I'm thinking that may have something to do with no sound. idk tho.

I deleted the crin suggested cache packages - no resolution. The dxdiag info's in the text file.

  • @legendshonor  The fact that your graphics card is unrecognized shouldn't have any effect on the game's sound.  I can help you get the card recognized, but in the interim, have you tried another sound output device?  If not, please try one that uses a different type of connection, for example headphones or earbuds instead of the built-in speakers.

The audio driver for your built-in speakers is quite old as well, and Acer doesn't offer a newer one.  But you can ask Windows to look for updates instead.  Hit Windows key-X, select the Device Manager, open the Audio section, and click on each entry in turn and click the black and green Update button in the menu.  Repeat for the devices listed in the Sound section.  Some devices may not have an updated driver, and that's fine; the point is to force Windows to search.  Restart your computer when you're done and before trying to play.

Thank you for your reply. I'll get back on the other sound devices...

The Windows Update has these in Optional Updates, will any affect the sound? The game starts and plays just fine otherwise.

@legendshonor  These are, respectively, a touchpad driver update, a BIOS update, an update for software that supports USB keyboards, and an update for network software.  None of them have anything to do with sound, and none of them are critical.  If you're seeing issues with one of the features these updates cover, then it's worth installing the update; otherwise, skip them.  The philosophy here is not to update your way into a problem that didn't exist before.
