Sims 3 Not Working

Hello!
I've gotten the Sims 3 to work on this computer to work in the past, but now I can't seem to get it to.
I run the Powershell script and when I hit play on the launcher I receive the attached error code on my Powershell before it closes.
Also attached is dxdiag.
I've updated DirectX and .Net Framework accordingly, neither fixed the issue.
The Alder Lake patch also does not fix my problem and even made it worse last time I tried it (I could not get the launcher open)

Thanks!

  • @vampirepills  I can't see which version of PowerShell you're running, but the problem may be that it's outdated.  Here's how to update:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/whats-new/migrating-from-windows-powershell-51-to-powershell-7?view=powershell-7.4

I'm not completely sure why the Alder Lake patch breaks some people's installs, but I suspect a third-party antivirus might be interfering, or maybe some extra-strict Windows Defender settings.  If either applies to you, disable the antivirus (temporarily) or change Defender's settings, just long enough to get the patch to run and the game working properly.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.

Or you can continue to use the PowerShell script, or you can use the Task Manager method described here:

Since it looks like you're running a disc or Steam install, be sure to apply the patch or the Task Manager method to TS3W.exe, with the W.

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply.
The Powershell update did not work, but the Task Manager solution did somewhat.
The game gets up and running now, but I receive the attached pop-up and the game is Not Responding often and crashing.

@vampirepills  Did you install through disc, Steam, or some other method?  What game version do you see in the lower-left corner of the launcher?  And if you've added mods or custom content, what are you using?

I have the Steam version, 1.67.

The only mods I have are NRAAS, and I don't use any of their core mods.

I opened the game again today and did not get the popup again, but it is still incredibly slow to start.

@vampirepills  Just to be sure, you're lifting the CPU core limit after the game loads, right?  Trying to run Sims 3 on one CPU core will tank performance on any system.

If that's not the issue, is OneDrive running on your computer?  The easy way to tell is to look for a cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen; if you see it, right-click it and pause syncing, then try again to play.

NRaas mods should be fine, but please list the ones you're using, for reference.  And as a side note, the only two that are core mods are ErrorTrap and UntranslatedKey; the rest are script mods.  There are only about six core mods in popular use; the vast majority of the mods out there are script mods, with some tuning mods available as well.
