Sims 3 store

I bought the Fit as a Fiddle Violin from the Sims 3 store and it will not work properly.  The skill will  not advance and they just keep playing the practice music and don't learn any new songs.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled and that did not seem to work.  I do not want to have to start my sims over just to get it to work since I have put a lot of work into them.  Any ideas would be great.  Thank you
