I have never used mods but try some of these troubleshooting ideas.
If you deleted the mods try to delete you 5 cashe package files. This cleans the game but deletes nothing. You sould delete these 5 package files every time you start your game http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files
also check your save game file , if any of your game save files have "Bad" on the end of them, delete those.
