Sims 3 won’t run and when it does it lags

Beel playing Sims 3 for years, ever since it was released and absolutely love it! Recently bought a new laptop (a gaming laptop) to be able to play the game better than on my work laptop. With better graphics and processors and all that. First time the game and few expansions packs I have were installed and I tried to play the game, I clicked play in the EA app and got sent to the launcher. I pressed play there, something was loading for a bit and then I was sent back to the EA app. This happens all the time. Through a Reddit forum I found a way to be able to actually play, by choosing 1 processor to play instead of using them all or letting the pc decide, but then the game is super slow and lagging which takes the fun away. Any way to get past the launcher and into the game without having the game be laggy and slow?

  • @puzzlezaddict Sadly doesn’t work for me. Through EA I open the launcher, I press play, it sends me back to EA and this continues till the end of time. Have downloaded DirectX 9 but sadly no difference. Only thing that works for me is something I read on a Reddit forum about choosing a particular processor when the launcher is open, only then the game actually starts but it lags like crazy and is super slow. Any tips?
  • @Wolfbear123  If you mean selecting one processor core in the Task Manager, it sounds like you have the Alder Lake issue.  With the Task Manager workaround, you need to reenable all CPU cores after the game starts to load in order to avoid this performance issue.  The core limit only needs to be in place for 5-10 seconds after launch, if that, so undoing the setting at the Main Menu is fine.

If you'd prefer, you can use the Alder Lake patch instead, which fixes the issue and removes the need for any other workaround:

Keep in mind that repairing Sims 3 or uninstalling and reinstalling it would undo the effect of the patch, so you'd need to reapply it.  The same is true if the EA App repairs or updates it; this wouldn't be a real update, but it could still revert the game to its default state.
