Sims 3 won't launch black windowed screen in corner when I try

Hi, my sims 3 game has been fine on my computer for ages, last week showed a black screen. Previously I deleted

  • scriptCache.package
  • compositorCache.package
  • simCompositorCache.package
  • CASPartCache.package
  • Options.ini

and the thumbnails folder and it worked, no issues after that and the next time I played not its doing the same issue and what I deleted before isn't working. Repair isn't working, nothings working, very frustrated and don't want to have to go through this every other time I want to launch the game. Game runs fine once launched its getting the stupid thing to launch that's the issue, and its only recently started playing up and i haven't changed anything. Please help? :(

  • Cazamelia81  The next time the game doesn't work, please let me know if there's anything different about your setup relative to the last time you played (and restart your computer and try again).  It's difficult to say what might have gone wrong if it's not happening right now.

By the way, EA-made content on the Store site is referred to Store content, not cc.  Exchange content, as in, what's made by other users, is not official and can contain cc, but cc itself refers to third-party items like clothing or furniture that don't exist in the game itself.  I understand what you mean, but it might make searching easier for you if you use the terms in the typical way.

@puzzleaddict Thankyou for your help. There was a point where It wouldn't load if I had been on the computer awhile but would if I restarted, but not for awhile and this time restarting didn't help.   it just did the whole black screen thing one day without warning, it had worked fine the day before, so I deleted the folders mentioned above the first time and problem solved.

This time that didn't work either  so finally got it to work by doing the deleting and regenerating the sims documents folder, but it took a few times to stick and not refuse  to reload after coming out the game to put mods and EA official CC back in and trying again.

Restarting didn't help except to get rid of the stuck black screen as ctrl alt delete window was stuck behind it and couldn't bring it to the front to close Sims 3 down. I think I did the same thing both times for the folder just gave it a new name and made sims 3 regenerate the folder. then had to manually put the nraas mods back in and (official) CC did take out one mod the final time namely nraas once read, as while I didnt blame the mod  I don't really use it, all my mods are nraas and have been fine, and EA has made some like error trap and Overwatch necessary for overall game health.  Path is: C:\Users\me\Documents\Electronic Arts.

It worked again today first time, but worked for awhile after the first time too.

  • Cazamelia81  First, Copilot is completely incorrect here.  The EA App doesn't touch the Sims 3 user folder at any point during the process of launching or running the game.

Is there any pattern to what you're doing when the game works, or when it doesn't?  For example, does restarting your computer help?  Is your user folder inside the OneDrive folder?  To check, right-click the Sims 3 folder and select Properties > General, then look at the Location.

Additionally, what did you do to set up the new user folder when it didn't work, and what did you do when it finally did work?  If there are any details (you can remember) that differed, please let me know.

  • ok got it working  finally by renaming sims 3 in documents and making it regenerate the folder, this is a recurring issue recently though.

EDIT:  its doing the same thing again now. exited the game to put saves folder and mods folder back etc and its giving me the black screen again.

Edit II : Its working now (with saved games and mods) and as always its playing fine for hours now its finally launched and I have my saved games and (Official) CC back,  but don't trust it and not confident it wont refuse to load again the next time I choose to play and I'll have to go through this process every time.

asked co pilot and it said This seems to be caused by EA App corrupting the Sims 3 user folder during launch? Is this a thing and if so  how do I make the app leave the folder alone.?
