Sims 3 Won't Launch, Only World Adventures

After days of trying to get the Sims 3 launcher to even open and the game to actually run at all, I've run into yet another issue. I really hope it's a simple fix, because I can't deal with these annoyances anymore, to put it kindly. Here's what happens.

I open the Sims 3 launcher. When I press play, it tells me that the Sims 3 World Adventures disk isn't inserted, and I'm like, "Well, I should hope so - not that it matters, because I'm trying to launch the regular Sims 3". But no matter what I do, I can't get the Sims 3 to work. I have the regular disk inserted. Even opening it directly (from the program files) won't work; it opens Sims 3 World Adventures and then tells me I don't have the disk inserted.

Please help me.

Thank you!

  • The disc version of the game requires the you have the latest released to market disc in the optical drive to play the game. WA is installed and does not require the disc for actual game play but the disc is required to prove ownership. Once you install WA the game will open to the WA screen. And you use the WA disc. If you get the digital download version you do not need a disc. The drm follows the newest pack you own.

...Okay..? This doesn't answer my question at all... Obviously I have both discs, I wrote that above.

    I think you misunderstood roberta591.

The game works as follows: You always play all expansion packs and the base game at the same time. So if you have both WA and the base game installed, you have contents from both in your game. That does not mean that you have to USE all the content. You can play any savegame you might have started before installing World Adventures and you do not need to go to any of the foreign towns.

Because you play all together, the game requires you to put the WA disc in. It looks for the DVD that was last released that you have installed (which in your case is world adventures).

So put the WA disc in and enjoy the game.

Only way to play the base game alone is to uninstall world adventures or use a third party tool but that should not be necessary cause you can still play base game only by just not using the features WA offers.
