Sims 4 update paused and sims 3 launcher requires origin.

Ok, i got a new lap top today and after i had done all the new set up stuff i was ready to re-download all my sims games (sims 3 and sims 4). I downloaded the sims 3 base game no problem, then because I really wanted to play the sims 4 i put my disc in to begin downloading it. It began perfectly fine by installing origin on my lap top and installed it all fine. Then it proceeded to start updating my sims 3... which I thought was okay, and it updated fine (sims 3 was not my main concern then), and then it started “copying” the sims 4, which it did perfectly then started to update but then paused suddenly at 2%. I tried a solution which was to run origin as an administrator and “repair game”, but that option never came up for me and resume update and cancel update were greyed out and I couldn’t click on them. Those options came up when I clicked on my sims 3 though. And now when i try to play sims 3 it says “origin is required to play this game. Please install origin and relaunch the game. If origin is already installed and the game is not running, please contact customer support”. I have not contacted customer support because i’ve seen that a lot of people have had this problem and they did nothing to help. Im really NOT tech savy so somebody plz help me and dumb everything down as much as possible. Thanks.

@Lilac2002  First the best thing to do when installing from an old account is to download and install the Origin installer - run the installer and login and check to see if Origin is running correctly. If you installed Origin from the disc you need to login with your old login and password. If you install Origin from the disc you should restart your computer a few times to get Orioogin to update. A new install needs to be activated by Origin the first time you run the game. Origin is a stand alone program so the fast way to update Origin is to uninstall Origin - download the Origin installer. Install the download. The Sims 3 has been out for some time and the DRM has changed in 2012. Rather then install from disc it is cleaner to get the digital download version from Origin. The Sims 3 disc has the 2009 DRM and the digital download installs the 2012 DRM which is what you need. As Sims 4 has been out now for a little while it is best to get the digital download through Origin as this will install all the in your Origin account and restore your user data from the cloud if you have it enabled to do so. Origin needs to be up to date and online to work correctly. A new Sims 3 install has to be at version 1.69. The Sims 3 has to be at version 1.67 for Origin to update the game to version 1.69 - there is no stand alone patch for The Sims 3. Now that Sims 4 has been out there has been some updates. An up to date Origin needs to be started a few times to make sure the patches have been applied. If Origin is not seeing the game it is possible Origin is not up to date or something is blocking Origin from communicating (antivirus or ad blocker). Get Origin working with your old login and password. Do the game icons appear in the library? Then see if the games will update. There are other things that can prevent Origin from updating properly  - one common one is not enough free space on the system storage device. If you have a small density SSD there may not be enough room for Origin to run correctly.
