sims stuck in travel state

I had parents go on free vacation when the offer popped up. When the vacation was over, mom came back, but dad didn't. However, mom was still considered in travel mode, though I could play her. I tried everything. I reset each sim. I split up household. When I split mom up from household, I even moved her into another house. Then I merged them back together and mom was now in the same state as dad. My teens (twin girls) relationships with them show them as long distance with no interactions. Now my twins are grown up, but if I try to travel or enroll them in the university, I can't because it tells me that the adults in the household are traveling. Even though they aren't in the household anymore. I've tried deleting files, including the CACHE files. I tried redownloading the latest patch. I would love to have both parents back, but if I can just play as the girls and be able to travel with them and enroll them at the university, I will be happy. Is there anything else I can do? TIA!

    yikes! the free vacation is buggy  i turn it down after that happened me the first time round there is a couple of things that may work for you

    1. if you have the save game from before the glitch happened launch that to play  although you'll be at the point of where you last saved hopefully with all the family and if the free vacation is offered cancel it

    2. if the girls  are still teens then via edit town create a sim and add a young adult to the household to prevent the social worker coming to take them away then go to edit town click on your lot and save a copy of them to the libiary start a new game then from edit town from the libiary place your saved copy into a new lot then the mascot should appear in the new game take the appitude test to enroll to uni

    3. if the girls are old enough i.e. are  young adults  then go to edit town click on your lot and save a copy of them to the libiary start a new game then from edit town from the libiary place your saved copy into a new lot  then the mascot should appear in the new game take the appitude test to enroll to uni

    tip if this works for you before you have your sims  take the apptitude test and then enroll to go to uni save your game then save as new name then off to uni reason being if the uni trip bugs out (which can happen ) you will have your save game to fall back on
