Sims3 language settings

I have tried to install my new Sims3 game. The text and instructions should be in danish (I bought the game in Denmark and the cover notice that text and instructions are available in danish) but when I try to install the game - I have 3 options for language; english, french and spanish. I installed the game in english and the tried to find language settings to change language to danish. I couldn't - please help. I thank you in advance for your prompt reply.

Shouldn't matter. It really depends on the region.

Don't register it yet though otherwise it's probably tough to return.

You can install it but don't register at thesims3.com.

It might be easier to just return without trying though.

Well, same problem here - although in Swedish. I have to say the seller mucked up big time as all documentation, and interface, is in Swedish. But I (my daughter) did't have any other options than spanish, us english and one more.

And we followed intstructions and registered.

If I understand you correctly we will then have problems getting the proper product?

I must say I find that most dissatisfying. Having payed for a product and followed instructions and then being in effect "dumped".

I would suggest you act to support this issue.

I'm confused. Talked to ea helpdesk in denmark yesterday and he said I couldn't install it in danish because I have a mac computer - that mac can't install the new european version?! Is this correct? If so... EA sells a product which states that it can be installed by using a mac computer and that text and instructions is in danish - and this is not correct??!! Where should I go from here? We already did the register because we thought that we could change the language in the Sims3 game under options!

I have to say that I am very dissapointed - the helpdesk in denmark also said that they couldn't help me further and the only solutions was if we knew of someone with an older version of Sims3, because then we could install this version and then afterwards play the game we just bought. Was this helpful... no because we don't know anyone with an older version. So now I have a game I can't return and my daughter can't play unless I sit beside her all the time?!?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Would it help to download the game from thesims3.com website and install it from there? The I suggest that EA made this an option for free....!

  • I have the same problem. I bought the game in Finland, the box is in Finnish, it even says "Text: Finnish" on the box, but the installer only lets you install English, French or Spanish versions. And I'm on a Mac too.

My version number has the digit 2 at the end, so it is the international version all right.

If the information katrine2012 has received is correct, and the game cannot be installed in the language stated on the packaging, this will be my last EA purchase. I'm tired of having to fight over every. EA. game. Year. After. Year. Just to get them to work properly. ☹️

  • Found a solution in this video guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn-MnXRxs4s

Here's a written explanation: The language files are there (depending on which version you have, of course), you just have to get the game to use the correct language setting. It seems the installer can't set the language right, but you can do it manually, as shown in the video. I did it myself just now, and the game is working well now, in Finnish. In Finder, go to the Applications folder, and find The Sims 3 app. Right click and select show contents. Navigate to Contents/Resources/Preferences. There you have a file named update_always.reg (in the video, this file is found through a Spotlight search). Open this file in TextEdit (it won't open in that app by default) and change the "Locale" and "Country" values according to the language you want. For example, I changed "en-US" to "fi-Fi" to set the language to Finnish. I'm sure you can work out your own country code. Save and close the file. Now, when you launch The Sims 3, it should be in the right language.

    Hope that helps!

Old Thread, I know. But the problem was new for me.
I know I've played Sims 3 in Swedish on a Mac, a few years ago.

So now I bought it for my daughter and installed on a Mac – and as others already has said, there was the choice of English, Spanish and French. Period.

EA claims they do not support Swedish (neither Danish, Norwegian or Finnish, obviosly).

    But, please...

I: The package is in Swedish, and it states "Manufactured in EU.

II: The package alson states clearly that TEXT and INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN THE GAME is in Swedish!

III: I have peeked into the game, and there are a number of languages stuffed into it, among them Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Norwegian.

    So, what ...?

And, yes, my daughter was very disappointed, as she has tried Sims in swedish with friends.

There should be swedish as far as I'm aware.

Did you talk to a game advisor in your country ?
