This is my own personal Crash Check List
- Does the game crash or the whole computer ?
--> Computer: Hardware or Overheating issue --> Not my cup of tea
--> Game: Continue
- What is your Operating System ?
--> MAC OS --> Sorry, can't help
--> Win XP - Win 7 --> Continue
--> Win 8 --> Ask for graphic card, otherwise proceed as Win XP - Win 7
- When does the game crash ?
--> On loading the game --> Usually an outdated scripting mod
--> On loading the savegame --> Does it happen on all savegames or just that particular one ? What happens if the person starts a new game ? --> If it's everything, not sure what's the reason. If it's just that game, it's probably corrupt. Load a backup or try ErrorTrap
--> Shortly after entering live mode --> DEP
--> 20-30 min into the game or 10 min into CAS --> Usually due to a insufficient graphic chip. See below for trouble shooting this
--> 2 to 4 hours into the game --> Usually a out of RAM crash
--> Crash on doing something specific --> Could be anything really, but if it's reproducible, it could be an actual bug or a specific (custom content) item.
- Insufficient Graphic Card crash (< 500 MB of dedicated Memory)
--> If they say they have an graphic card, as them if they have a switchable card. If so, tell them to make sure, the right one gets loaded. This link may help with that (it's for Nvidia though): http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=481768
--> If they just have the chip, tell them to turn off Mirror reflections and lower the graphic settings.

- Windows 8 & Graphic Cards
--> I really don't know much about this but I think there are lots of cards that don't have drivers yet that work correctly with the game.
It's just a guideline really. We all know how difficult crashes are to diagnose, but maybe someone here has something to add to it.
