I don't know Avast at all.
can you add exceptions ? Try adding the ts3w.exe to see if that makes a difference.
The expansion updates are not needed anymore. It does help in some cases.
You can use patch downloader from the same user on mts to patch those.
I'll see if I can get some info on the unknown error.
I've checked with Ford (creator of the tool) on the unknown error you go there.

hardware related would be my guess too tbh (especially since you said you didn't have any crash logs at first)
Ok, so I disabled my antivirus and was able to launch the game. I was met with a black screen for a long time, so i alt+tabbed out and found a pop up that said something about a security certificate (I think it said expired but i accidently closed it before i could read it.) I tabbed back into the game and got was able to get all the way to CAS. I exited the game and re-enabled my antivirus to test the theory.
After I enabled my antivirus and launched the game again, it crashed immediately after the maxis logo. ****!
I disabled my antivirus and launched the game again. I once again was able to get all the way to CAS when I exited again. Test complete.
So now the questions are, why is my antivirus interfering with the game? How do I check the game's security certificate? Why would my antivirus block a program without giving me the standard defense action notification?
