The Sims 3 family funds

I asked this question on the forums already but I never got a reply.

I started this family with one sim. He's already at the top of his career as an author. He added a simbot to the family, and then got married. Right after he got married I moved the whole family to a bigger house. For some reason ever since I moved the family I'm only getting an income from the wife. The husband's income is no longer being added to the family funds. The simbot is unemployed. They even had a baby. I started this family to play the game without using any cheats and I want to be able to do so, but they had a baby and I can't afford to upgrade the house any more than I already have. It's getting frustrating when according to his memories and his lifetime wish he should be making over $5,000 a week and the family funds haven't been over $3,500 since I made some household improvements several sim weeks ago.

P.S. He's written at least 2 more books since they moved in too. He did get a weird want shortly after they moved in, that effect said that he wanted to move in with his wife. I thought maybe it was because she's a fairy and it meant the fairy house that I had bought for her shortly before that. When I hit go home from any other lot, he does indeed return to the home that he shares with the rest of the family. This is his 2nd wife. The first one died and I did bring the tombstone to the new house. She does haunt them from time to time. I'm including this info just in case any of it helps.
