Solved

The Sims 3 launcher has stopped working.

I was playing last night, but today the game has stopped working. The launcher opens, but it's just blue and the launch button is gray. I uninstalled my mods folder to make sure that wasn't the cause, but the problem persists.

I've already tried: Reinstalling the game, Repairing the game, Reinstalling the EA app, Clearing the cache in the EA app.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me.

Thank you in advance.

  • Andre001507  The fact that the game is working again means something in the old folder was the problem.  You can of course test your mods, but don't be surprised if adding the entire folder back stops the game from opening.  In that case, split your mods and test until you find the culprit.

If the Mods folder is fine, you can add your other content to the new Sims 3 folder, a little at a time.  If you run into trouble with the process, please see the "rebuilding your user folder" section of this post for further help:

  • Andre001507  Please clear Edge's Internet Explorer-mode data, as described towards the end of this article:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/view-and-delete-browser-history-in-microsoft-edge-00cf7943-a9e1-975a-a33d-ac10ce454ca4

If that doesn't help, let me know whether you've recently upgraded to Windows 11, or installed it fresh—I've seen a few comments about Windows 11 breaking the launcher.  And if the launcher works but the game itself does not, please describe what happens when you try to play.

Hello, first of all, thanks for the reply. So, I still have Windows 10, and The Sims 3 has always worked fine for me so far. I followed your advice and deleted the Microsoft Edge browser. The launcher now starts normally again, and I can click the arrow button, but the game doesn't start. I just get a black screen, and the loading cursor spins for minutes without the game starting.

  • Andre001507  I apologize for the late reply.  Please move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Okay, the game is running again. I still don't understand what the actual problem was, but the game is working again. Can I add my mods folder back now?
