TS3 Island Paradise "Unknown Error Occurred"

Hi!

Island Paradise is currently messing up my game. I have the base game, Ambitions, Diesel Stuff, Generations, Showtime, Seasons, University Life, and Island Paradise installed. I previously had problems with Ambitions but managed to fix it, it has been a while so I honestly don't remember how I did it but I believe it was the standard fix recommended. All I know is that Ambitions is not present in the Applications > The Sims 3 folder but it is installed, is present in the Launcher, and works just fine.

I had been playing with all my packs sans Island Paradise for over a year and it worked great. I recently decided that I wanted to play IP and tried to install it via Origin. It SEEMS to have installed fine, but whenever I try to open the game with Origin the Launcher does not open and I get a "Unknown error occurred" message (not sure if this is just my computer or if it's relevant at all but when my game is working fine and I try to open the Launcher, the base game icon pops up then the most recent (UL at the time) pops up then the Launcher opens. When I try to open with IP installed, just the IP icon comes up and then it doesn't work...).

When I do a clean uninstall of IP and run the game, all my other expansion packs are fine and the game works like normal. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Island Paradise several times now and nothing is working. I've tried every solution I can find on these forums and nothing has worked. I've tried searching the forums for problems specific to Island Paradise but it seems that I'm the only one having this problem.

As far as specs go, I'll try to include everything here:

MacOS High Sierra

Version 10.13.6

iMac (21.5 Inch, Mid 2010)

Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3

Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

Serial Number: [removed]

It only has 68.67GB used (it's an old family computer that I wiped because no one uses it anymore) so it's definitely not a storage issue.

If anyone has any solutions I'll be incredibly grateful! Thank you in advance!

edited to remove serial number: it's best to keep that private. —puzzlezaddict

  • @ghostobi2  What you probably did was move some files from the Ambitions EP into the folder for University Life, which was your newest pack by release date before you installed IP.  So you just have to repeat the process, and you should be fine.  Here's a video guide:

Normally, I'd suggest a clean uninstall of the whole game, given how many uninstalls and reinstalls you've gone through, but if you can still play after uninstalling IP, it sounds like you've got that part covered.

If you want to make Ambitions show in Applications, that's even simpler:

By the way, the world of Isla Paradiso is so poorly made that it's almost unplayable even on the strongest hardware.  EA's version of the world will lag and glitch and generally make for a miserable playing experience.  The solutions are to either edit IP yourself, or to download a fixed version.  A player named ciane has uploaded her fixed IP for others to use, and she also documented the work necessary to make it playable, for those who'd rather do the edits themselves.

By the way, the features of the IP pack work just fine, so if you'd rather skip all this, you can add what you want to other worlds instead.  They'll work on any map that has the space and deep enough water.

@puzzlezaddict First of all, thanks for the edit 🙂

And second of all, it worked, so thank you so much! I suspected Ambitions was the problem but I didn't want to mess with it because it had already caused my game to crash before. I also downloaded the IP fix and it seems to be working fine too. Thanks again!
