unable to login to sims3 account via launcher

when I start the sims 3 launcher it says I am not logged in. i click login and the login window shows up. I enter my id/pw and click ok and the window disappears but I'm not logged in. I believe the launcher uses  Explorer but I'm on windows 11 which does not have Explorer. So how can I address this?

  • @genfoch01  I wouldn't be surprised if the launcher also can't handle the other symbols in your password.  It's worth testing even if you later revert the password to the original or something else with symbols.  Please clear Edge's IE mode data, if any exists, each time you change the password.  Additionally, go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Downloads and delete the file labeled [your email].bin, if it exists, each time the launcher or in-game login fails.

  • @genfoch01Have you tried again. There was a huge outage with both Origin and EA App, but it should work as of this morning (European time).

    thanks for the response, I just tried and still have the same issue.  

  • @genfoch01  With Explorer gone, the launcher and other older applications that depended on IE now use Edge's IE mode.  So please clear Edge's IE mode data, as described at the end of this article:

    If this doesn't help, please let me know whether your password contains any special characters.  The launcher often doesn't respond well to these even if all other EA sites accept the password.  Additionally, I'm curious as to why you're needing to enter the password at all.  There's not much reason to login to the launcher under normal circumstances.

    thanks for the response. 

    I did clear out all the data from ms edge. no joy.  I was looking at internet explorer compatibility mode and I don't see anything set  up for it beyond "When browsing in Microsoft Edge, if a site requires Internet Explorer for compatibility, you can choose to reload it in Internet Explorer mode" which is the default.  This also suggests it might require user intervention to work which I guess might not work on a game trying to open a url with IE.  but I don't know the url the launcher uses to add it to the   "Internet Explorer mode pages" 

    my current password has an "< ", an "=", and an "_"   I do remember seeing there was an issue with "&" and "#"  and changed my pw accordingly 

    I'm trying to log in because I need to download all my store purchases to my new computer. also I like being able to search for an purchase new content in game. I know sims3 is not really supported any more, but there is a lot of stuff there and some of it is really nice.

    Thank you so much for the response. It was indeed the password.  so it seems sims 3 cant use any special characters at all!  so I changed my EA password to 64 alphanumeric characters and was able to log in. I so owe you a beer (or other drink of you choice)
